STEVEN ANDREW JACKSON LEADS CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASS ON THE “SUCCESSION: FAMILY & BUSINESS”

Estate Planning attorney Steven Andrew Jackson will teach a one hour Continuing Education class on “Succession: Family & Business.”

Class Details:

  • Date: Wednesday, September 12, 2018
  • Time: 8:00 am to 9:00 am
  • Location: The Biltmore Building, One North Pack Square, in downtown Asheville.

The class is approved for one hour Continuing Education by the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

Overview:

Many of our mutual clients are business owners. This can range from a small one person operation, or professional practice, to a large operation with numerous employees including large farms, construction, manufacturing, or other types of businesses. The structure of the business can range from a Sole Proprietorship to a Limited Liability Company. The transition of that business needs to be planned for. If the owner of that business, often the mover and shaker in the business, goes down by mental disability or death, the business can grind to a halt. If there are other partners in the business the complexity changes dramatically.

In one interesting hour we will dive into issues that have been brought to the forefront lately in the movie “All the Money in the World”, and the TV Shows: “Trust”, both about the Getty Family, and the transition of their family business; and “Succession” which is dealing with the family dynamics and the transition of the business. We also have seen that on a major scale here locally in Asheville, North Carolina in regards to the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil, owners of the Biltmore Estate, and the succession of that local historic property and its many related enterprises.

In one hour, we will cover:

  1. Family Mindsets.
  2. Family History and Issues that Causes.
  3. Succession of the Business and Family Assets.
  4. Structuring the Transition.
  5. Keeping the Family in Relationship after the Estate Settles.
