Memorial Day is to remember those who have died while fighting for our country. Today we think of the professional soldiers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. One has to remember that this country was founded when ordinary men like you and I took their hunting rifles and fought the powerful professional soldiers of the British Army.
The Army and Navy of England of the late 1700s were some of the most powerful and effective military forces of their day. England controlled much of the world through those powerful professionally trained warriors. Yet American citizens like you & I took up their hunting rifles and fought fearlessly & tirelessly until England knew that the upstart Americans would never back down. Never surrender. Only then did England secede the land to the upstart Americans, never thinking that we would grow into a nation more powerful than they were.
Do remember where we came from. Remember that it all started with the ultimate sacrifice of ordinary men like you and I who took up their hunting rifles to create a new nation, along with the women that sacrificed in supporting them.
That is a legacy worth leaving. That is a Will and Trust carrying a great legacy to the next generation.
